French Country Modern: Exterior foundation
The French country home is reminiscent of the rural French countryside. French country floor plans often employ brick, stone or stucco exteriors, and large rooflines, sometimes with balconies. Our french country Modern home will be wrapped in brick all the way around. I love a classic red brick, esp one with age, but our home will be painted a creamy white. Something about painted white brick just makes my heart happy.
Here is the exterior elevation of our soon to be new home! According to my contractor, our French country modern home should take 10 months to construct. If everything goes according to plan, which I hear never happens lol, then we should be moving in by July or August of 2018. Ignore the siding details that appear on the second story. Everything will be covered in brick with a double chimney stack and copper awning details. I’m still not 100% certain on the roofing material, but i’ve got ideas…maybe enough for a whole different post! I know right…How interesting can roofing be? I promise there are so many choices its overwhelming!
French Country Modern: Exterior Inspiration- Painted white brick
Although, painted white brick is on trend right now, it is also a classic restoration technique. Since I want my home to take on the old french county look (but with a modern twist), I though this would be the perfect application. Here are some homes to help you visualize the direction we will be taking with this exterior.
Speaking of roofing, maybe you can give me your option? Do you like the softness of the brown wood shingles or the contrast of the dark gray or black roofing? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below! As always thanks for stopping in and I hope you’ll join me on this building journey. Pin the image below to share with others!
