Blue Oasis Master Bedroom Reveal

Home Tour | Interior Decor

Today’s big reveal is our master bedroom and I like her a lot! It’s simple, fresh and calm with a big dose of blue. For the shoot, I styled it out a bit more then it would look like on any given day, but visually (and in a perfect world) I prefer it like this. So let’s get into it.  Welcome to my blue oasis master bedroom.

Now if you’ve been following along my blog, you know that I will be moving soon.  So why redo the whole thing?  The short answer is that I felt the space would show better to buyers with scaled down furniture and I am taking all of this furniture with me to the new pad.  Some of these pieces will remain in my new master bedroom, and some pieces I have already designated to other spaces.  Even this jaw dropping chandelier is coming with me!

Here is what my master bedroom looked like before the revamp.  Honestly, all of the furniture came with us from our Arizona house, which had much taller ceilings and larger rooms.  The scale of the old bedroom furniture was much too big to begin with. I even had to position one of the night stands on angled wall because the bed and tables were so huge.  Boy looking back at this photo has made me realize 2 things: I have come a long way as a photographer/blogger (still a long way to go), and I wish I would have revamped this space sooner!

The deep blue walls still remain.  The color is Tempe Star by Sherwin Williams and I just love the warmth it carries.  Did ya know there was such a thing as warm blue? Here’s how it looks now! Same color, but totally different feel huh?!

I love this space now! I know there isn’t any fancy molding or intricate wallpaper, but it’s fresh, cozy, and functional.  Sure I could have done a patterned window treatment, but instead I went for a solid white drape because I wanted that peaceful oasis. I really can’t believe the difference these drapes made in lifting the ceiling and framing the bay window.  I used my go-to ikea panels, the same ones I used in my daughters nursery. Inexpensive yet beautiful. Each window is treated with a top down, bottom up black out shade.  I have black out shades (and I’ll have them in the next home too) because mom and dad need sleep.  If you have little kiddos like me, you know we need all the sleep we can get.

The wing back leather chair remains as well.  This time with a more modern glass nesting table by it’s side.  I love to balance traditional pieces with more contemporary lines. It keeps the space from becoming to predictable. A brass floor lamp and a photograph of my kiddos completes the look.

The bed! I have been eyeing this iron canopy bed for a little over a year.  I searched and searched for look-a-likes, but I just kept coming back to this one.  There are several more modern versions, but the traditional details in the posts just stole my heart.  My last bed was also a 4 post with a canopy as …I guess I like the drama.  The frame is actually an aged bronze, but comes across black in certain lighting. If you order this bed, just be aware that there is about a 3 month turnaround time (at least that’s what the website said).  My experience was more like 5 months because pottery barns furniture department has a few kinks they need to figure out.  My bed was supposed to be delivered 2 weeks before Christmas. When the delivery truck showed up, he had only half the bed with him and the large mirror.  We signed for the mirror, but refused the half bed.  It was then rescheduled for Christmas eve morning, but no one showed or called.  I followed up the day after christmas only to find out that the bed was missing all the hardware, so they could not put it together. They issued a hardware replacement and told me I would receive a call in about a week with a delivery date.  No call. I called customer service this time and asked where my missing hardware was.  They could not figure it out and issued another hardware replacement request.  Again I waited with no luck.  Another month had gone by with several calls to customer service and finally I received my hardware at the beginning of february.  In the end, Pottery barn did refund a significant amount of money back to me and apologized for the inconvenience.  Oh and a couple days ago I received another hardware set lol.  So here is what I learned in the process.  Pottery barn offers quality furniture items.  I love their stuff.  The furniture delivery department has some major kinks they need to improve upon (based on my experience and many others that shared similar stories with me).  In the end, I love love my bed, and I guess it was worth the wait?!

Wanna keep talking about my belated bed arrival? Me either.  Moving on to the bedding.  If you’d like to read about How to achieve a 5 star hotel bed at home CLICK HERE.  I really can’t say enough about my new bedding from Bollandbranch.  It is mostly all white with different textures and a few tonal differences. I layered soft sheets, a waffle blanket, and a duvet cover over my down comforter. I always prefer a duvet over a comforter because its so much easier to wash.  I popped some color in with my two throw pillows.  The pattern reminds me of the ocean and plays well with my blue oasis theme. So why style a bed differently then I would live in it day to day.  Well the obvious answer is that is way prettier.  When I make my bed (which is not everyday) I always make it like this.  I love getting into a nicely made bed at the end of the day. It feels so luxurious.

I feel the need to stop and stare at this chandelier from Lamps Plus.  I love how the shape feels traditional but the material and color are so fresh.  It’s a piece of art made from painted white wood.  You better believe this beauty is coming with me to the next home.  Perhaps in a different location though…can’t wait to share that with you.

The nightstands are some old hammy down pieces from my brother.  I transformed them using bleach.  You can read the full tutorial HERE, and it is easy guys! Pop some new hardware on and we are in business.  The lamps are from target.  I wanted glass from the start and this blue glass reminds me of the ocean.  A couple must have items I keep on my nightstand are a mirrored jewelry tray and candles.  I gotta have a drop zone for my rings, earrings, and ponytail holders at night.  A fragrant candle…need I explain!

Now what are those beauties popping out from behind my bedside lamps?  My new canvas’s are from Julia Contacessi.  They are called Sea Smoke and I absolutely love them.  Yes I went for symmetry and mirrored 2 of the same canvas prints.  I can’t help it, I like balance.  CLICK HERE to check out all her beautiful landscapes and abstract paintings. Make sure to use the code is PCMDJ5H with the description of “Remington Avenue Insider Deal!” at checkout for 15% off your purchase.

Sitting squarely in front of my bed are these two cube ottomans.  It’s always a good idea to have some sort of bench or cushion at the foot of a bed.  They really come in handy for taking off and putting on shoes. I am also loving the fun blue tassels hangin from the brass zippers.  You can actually get these tassels in several different colors. I think they add the perfect punch to any ottoman or throw pillow.

Remember the big mirror I mentioned during my bed rant earlier?  Well here it is leaning against my wall.  I cannot survive without a full length mirror and this one sure is pretty.  I’ve got a couple extra throw pillows all bundled up in a woven basket because a girl can never have enough pillows lol.

This dresser was part of our original bedroom set.  I still love the wood patterns so much.  Revamping a space doesn’t mean you need to replace everything.  Just make sure that the old pieces are balanced in the new space and the colors move around the room in triangles.  I’ve got black, dark brown, tan, bronze, chrome, and white all working together in harmony. No need to get all matchy matchy! Use different woods and metals to make the space feel more organic and collected over time.

Did you catch our laundry bin?  It’s nothing special, but it has 3 separate bags for whites, darks, and workout cloths. It’s on casters for easy transportation to the laundry room. Ya even bloggers have loads of laundry that aren’t kept up.  I love to take pretty pictures and share spaces that inspire me (in hopes to inspire you), but don’t forget, at the end of the day, we are people just like you.  I had a gal message me on Instagram the other day thanking me for the crumbs on my kitchen floor (which are there everyday btw).  I think for some reason people start to think that our homes are these perfect stages that are always imaculate.  As much as I am honored that you think my home is kept that well, I must confess that my home is lived in.  It gets messy. So don’t fret if your home is not staged and picked up 24/7!  Neither is mine, but I am here to inspire good and functional design. I am pretty darn happy with our new blue oasis master bedroom.  All my bedroom sources are linked below.  Hopefully the next homeowners will enjoy it as much as we will.

  1. Where did you purchase your bed skirt? I have a canopy bed that has a high drop and I am struggling finding a bed skirt long enough.
