There has definitely been some obstacles standing in the way of hosting guests lately. With the global pandemic, not many of us have had many visitors. I personally have uses this valuable time at home to organize, declutter, and complete unfinished projects around the house.  I recently finished my guest bathroom adjoining this space and you might remember back in January when I painted this ombre ocean wall mural. If you are an avid follower of mine, then you know I have been on the hunt for the perfect nightstands to complete this relaxing guest retreat. Well, I am happy to report that I have finally found them at Lowe’s

I went back and forth looking at a few options. I was blown away by Lowe’s stylish online selection of home organization and decor solutions. Honesty, the quality of my new nightstands is amazing. Really I could have gone with a wood, black, white, blue, or gray nightstand and all would have looked dynamite. Here are the other options I considered before I made my final decision.

Ultimately I went with a light gray option with plenty of closed storage space. It offers some contrast without being to abrupt and marries well with the other brass accents in the room. It feels good to have everything decluttered and organized for my future guests. Here is what the space looked like with the old night stands. The NEW nightstands are so much more polished and really finish the space nicely.

Guest retreat- stocking the nightstand

Now you may be asking what these nightstands have to do with creating an inviting guest retreat? The answer is two fold. Design and functionality are huge in creating a well designed bedroom. When a space feels balanced it subconsciously creates a feeling of peace and relaxation. These nightstands complete the design plan and fill the need of function for my guests. Not only do they provide a bedside table, but needed storage for some extra special accessories I like to keep stocked for my guests.

Whats in/on the nightstands? Here is a list of items that will make your guest feel right at home:

  • phone chargers
  • a clock
  • a bedside lamp
  • toothpaste
  • extra toothbrush
  • hair comb and brush
  • fresh deodorant
  • travel size shampoo & conditioner
  • pen & paper
  • faux plant
  • book
  • melatonine

So why the list? Well, have you ever been a guest at someone’s house and forget any or all of these items? I have, and I hate to ask to borrow them or have to go buy a new one. I promise your guests will feel so special knowing they have everything they need without having to ask.

Inviting Guest Retreat- A well made bed

No matter your budget, make sure your guest bedroom is stocked with extra cozy layers of bedding and towels. I like to keep an extra set of sheets and a pillows in the closet. I always have my guest bed made with cozy sheets, a blanket, a comforter, and an extra throw blanket. This way no matter the temperature, your guest has options of warmth and comfort.

An Inviting guest retreat- laundry

Something you may not think about is guests laundry. some of you may not even have guests stay that long, but I do. Sometimes I’ll have family for visit from out of the country for weeks at a time. I have found having a hamper has made such a difference in their stay. When everything has a place, a room stays more organized. Organization creates an inviting retreat. I’ve linked the one I selected and a few others I love.
