Design impact: Changing rugs

Ever wonder how much switching out a rug can really transform the look and feel of a room? Today I am taking you into my master bedroom and sharing the design impact changing a rug can really make!

When we first moved into our home 1.5 years ago, I selected a more traditional rug with a muted blue color and pattern. I still love the rug today, but I wanted something more neutral.  I love to change things up, and I found myself trapped within a just a few different color pallets. It’s no secret I love blue, but let’s see how changing out the rug really transformed my bedroom and opened up any possible color scheme. Here is my bedroom before.

As I was browsing Rugs.com (as I’ve done many times), I found myself gravitating to the same traditional patterns. Do you ever do that? Try and break out of what you know works, but find yourself selecting similar styles? While I don’t think there is anything wrong with knowing what you like, my main goal was to bring in a whole different style and really show you how big of an impact a rug can make in any space. Here are some of the rugs I was looking at originally.

One thing I really like about rugs.com is the wide variety of styles offered for all different budgets. They even have a large vintage selection of one of a kind rugs. It is super easy to navigate and you can filter styles, sizes, colors, and budget. That being said,  I eliminated the traditional category and set my filters to 9×12 size and cream/black. This brought up a myriad of styles and options that fit my exact criteria. Here is my new rug & it comes in a wide range of sizes and multiple color options.

I absolutely love the natural fiber weave and the bold yet sophisticated diamond pattern. Isn’t it crazy how changing out the rug made such a difference in the overall design of my bedroom? I kept the whole space pretty neutral, but now I’m free to introduce any color on a whim!  I was really excited about the price and quality for such a large rug.  I adore the real, one of a kind Moroccan weaves (sadly they were outside of my budget for the size of rug needed), but if you are looking for a true original here are some of my favs.
