Globally inspired office- Custom Drapes

Window treatments can really make or break a space! In the case of our globally inspired home office, custom drapes really made a big impact.

It’s week 4 of the One Room Challenge and my home office is really starting to come together. Last week I shared my furniture shopping selections with Gatehouse and this week my custom draperies were delivered and installed.

Uptown Drapes has been my go-to resource for all of my window needs. Both my kitchen draperies and my son’s bedroom draperies (completed last October as part of the one room challenge) are from Uptown Drapes. As mentioned last week, mixing animal prints was always going to happen in my office one way or another.  The zebra hyde rug is here to stay and the question remaining was: Do I bring in a different animal print in the window coverings or on the chairs?

Globally inspired office- Selecting custom Drapes

These are the drapery sample fabrics I ordered. Tip: Always order swatches to make sure you like the color and print in your space. Don’t skip this step- each sample is only $1 and the dollar amount spent on samples will go toward your next purchase – AMAZING!

In my mind I had already put the deerlet print at the top of my wish list. After reviewing the fabrics in my office and seeing them with the other furniture fabric options at Gatehouse last week, I ultimately decided on the Clea pattern in Chino. Why? I selected a light blue leopard print fabric for my arm chairs – so mixing an additional animal print would have been overkill (IMO). The “Reflect” swatch was a big contender too – I absolutely love the simmer and dainty star detail.  However, the scale of this pattern turned out to be too small in relation to the blue leopard print chair fabric. 

The Clea pattern won with its embroidered starburst detail.  The feminine pattern shows from all angles of the room and really plays nicely with the chandelier. As mentioned last week, I’m really teetering a balance between masculine and feminine details in this shared office of ours. To save a little money, I went with dummy panels (non functioning) since I already had a roller shade for privacy.  These drapery panels are purely decorative but really frame out the window nicely.  They are finished with a 2 finger top pleat- clean and tailored. Now you can really appreciate the scale of this oversized window! 

I opted for a brushed brass rod to repeat the finish on the cabinet hardware and art gallery frames.  We ran the rod right into the walls to ensure the drapery panels hugged each wall seamlessly.  Not sure if you’ve ever dealt with adjustable rods (I hate them) but that’s just another detail that sets Uptown Drapes above the others.  You can custom order any long rod and they are never adjustable. You designers know this is a hard feature to find at a reasonable cost!
