When I designed this house, I always envisioned an industrial hanging bed in my sons room.  I don’t know why, but I just had to build it.  He is so proud to show off his cool new room and tell his friends about how his mom and him built the bed together.  He made the best little assistant a mom could ask for. Make sure you check out the tutorial HERE.  It’s actually an easier build then you think!

My son has one of the best widows in the house. It’s gigantic and carries the X detail that I love.  Of course we had to frame that bad boy up with some proper window treatments.  The window actually has a roller shade and full functioning black out drapes.  I mentioned before that my son is our household alarm clock!  Blackout drapes were a must for those early summer mornings!  This fabric is called Yorktowne Plaid in glacier, and it carries a warm gray-tan weave with a black and white plaid design.  It’s sophisticated yet fun all at the same time. You can get these drapes from @Uptowndrapes which will be launching soon!

The wood beams added so much character to his bedroom.  Everything about his ceiling really pops! The dark ceiling adds so much depth to the otherwise white room.  The Stikwood covered beams add anther level of interest and frame in the perfect industrial Hunter ceiling fan. I also installed a pair of metal bent arm sconces on each side of his hanging bed.  I love that they can swing side to side and be used at the desk or on the bed.  I used a fun trick to install this sconces TOTALLY WIRELESS. Check out my Instagram stories highlights for this handy light trick I learned from Nestingwithgrace.

Initially I planned on a white and wood dresser, but instead revamped his old dresser to fit with the new look.  All I did was remove the stand (making it easier for him to reach his clothes), paint it, and replace the hardware! Above the dresser hangs a custom Map of the United states labeled “My Places”. I ordered this custom map from Mapiful.com and we marked all of the destinations my son has traveled to.  Lot’s more pins in his future I’m sure.  One thing I love about this site is that you can get a map of any destination, city, country, county, or geographic location and make it your own.  What a great gift right!? Use code: REMINGTONAVENUE10 for 10% off your own map.

We added some shelves for his special books and toys.  I opted for a light colored wood for his desk and shelves to ensure everything didn’t look to matchy matchy! Tip: Don’t get to fussy styling kids shelves- keep them playful and functional and bring in color!

I usually opt for a symmetrical look and go for matching bedside tables, but I felt he needed a desk to grow in to.  Right now it’s primarily a lego building center and art station, but soon enough it will overflow with homework and projects.

I installed all the accessories and styled the shelves when he was at school.  Click here for the links to all the furniture and accessories in his room. When he walked into his finished room for the first time he noticed a framed piece of art on his dresser.  The biggest smile came across his face (I wish I had recorded it) and he said “You framed my art mom!” Obviously he loved the Millennium Falcon “tattoo” (as he calls it) and the super soft bean bag, but having his art framed and displayed in his room made him feel like a million bucks! I displayed the rest of his art on this adjustable metal zip line.  Now he has a place to rotate out his old art pieces and bring in new ones as he pleases.  Tip: create a place for your children to display their art proudly.  A cork board, magnet board, zipline, or framed gallery are a few ideas to start with.

  1. This is great! I love the dark ceilings. The design is wonderful – perfect for now and easy to change small things as he grows. Thanks for sharing.
