One Room Challenge: Bright White Master Bathroom Final Reveal

DIY | Home Tour | Interior Decor

Friends, the day is here!  The One Room Challenge Final Reveal of my bright white master bathroom!

The One Room Challenge has been one of my favorite challenges, showing the climax and result of six crazy fast weeks of design and transformation. Don’t be fooled by the timely posts, the one room challenge is no easy task.  Sure it sounds simple enough to transform a room in 6 weeks, but it’s all about timing. In the case of my master bathroom, the tile needed to be installed asap in order to measure for the new glass shower doors which take 2-3 weeks to come in.  Each diy project needed to be executed perfectly, and decisiveness is a necessity if the intent is to finish when the final bell rings.  There is no time for selections to hang out in the cart for weeks, orders must be placed so shipping and delivery happens according to the timeline! You see the challenge isn’t necessarily finishing a space in 6 weeks, but rather finishing a space and styling it down to minute details…oh and photographing/editing every shot!  Anyway, I have totally enjoyed the experience and have learned a few things along the way, like how to move a light fixture and how to install a new faucet haha! Finally after all the hard work and lots of late nights,  I reveal to you my bright white master bathroom. (All blue script links you directly to the source.)

Let’s step back and revisit the room 6 weeks ago… dark, dated, brown and completely out of place in our home.

If you’ve missed any previous weeks, I’d love for you to catch up here:

Master Bath Week 1: Before Photos
Master Bath Week 2: Demo and “How to Tile over Tile”
Master Bath Week 3: “How to Paint Faucets” and bathroom vanity selection
Master Bath Week 4: Selecting Tile {Designer Style on a Budget}
Powder Bath Week 5: Lighting and Accessories

Starting from the beginning, everything was removed except the corner tub. The walls were painted Eider White by sherwin Williams and the brown tile was demoed to make room for these 24″x24″ gray terra-cotta tiles from Floor & Decor.

I showed you on week two “How to tile over tile” which is exactly how we covered our shower walls and tub surround.  Marble screams luxury to me! I selected a white Carrara ceramic marble look alike which gives the same effect without the upkeep and cost!

I extended the tile all the way to the ceiling and added a decorative band of white penny tile in the shower.  To add continuity, the penny tile was wrapped around the tub and directly into the backsplash of the vanity.

The old brown vanity was replaced with this white prefabricated one.  I love the traditional details and the pedestal legs.

Remember the issue with the closet door casing?! It was solved with some serious effort and a whole lot of caulk Lol!

You can see that I mixed my metals.  I have antique brass sink faucets and shower fixtures (some of which I painted to match).  My bath faucet is chrome along with the hardware on my new shower door.  The shower door was a huge upgrade which added greatly to the luxurious feeling.  I bid out several companies and Smith Hardware and Glass gave me an affordable option and even delivered a week early! Hooray!

As far as the rest of the metals, I used a combination of chrome, brass, gold, and silver.  I even painted the hinges of the adjustable arm sconces from Lighting Design.  Although beautiful in the original chrome finish,  adding that two-toned detail brought them to the next level.

I carried that same two-toned technique to the bathroom hardware throughout the space.  I replaced the old towel bar with these two hooks which I think are way more functional.

The toilet closet got a facelift as well.  I added these inexpensive DIY marble shelves and stacked them with both functional goodies like toilet paper and towels, and of course a few pretty accessories from Lamps Plus.  I’ll be writing a tutorial on the shelves soon, so stay tuned for that! The agate art work was a last minute addition which totally completed the space.

The windows got a new dressing as well.  I made the faux roman shades out of one panel of curtains (no sewing involved!).   They were such a simple and money saving project that I’m sure to repeat it! I hope you’ll subscribe to RemingtonAvenue.com so you won’t miss the faux roman shade tutorial or the DIY marble shelves coming soon.  The gold fabric really warms up the space and balances all the white and gray.

The rugs were selected to transfer the gold in the faux roman shades to the floor and keep the eye moving.

Finally let’s not forget the finishing metallic touches that really set off this white master bathroom!  I love using accessories in unexpected ways.  This cake stand, for instance, became a bath cart holding all my bath bombs and scrubs.

On top of the vanity I placed a tall vase of flowers to mimic the vertical rectangular mirrors.  I painted the bottom of the silver vase gold.  Along side are a white hand and a mirrored box used to hold jewelry and a double decker glass jar filled with bathroom essentials.

I’m just so happy every time I walk in my bathroom now! I kinda just want to stand in the door and stare…
