Spring Decorating-Bringing life back into your home

Home Tour | Interior Decor

Do you decorate your home for each season?  I wouldn’t say I completely overhaul my home every time the temperature changes outside, but I do make a few simple changes.  When it comes to spring decorating, its important to bring life back into your home.  Winter can be so dreary, so adding just a few touches can make all the difference.  Read on as I share my tips and tricks on “springerizing” your home.

If you are joining me from Citrine Living as part of our Spring has Sprung Home tour, then welcome.  Tamara’s classic style never disappoints. The full list of participants is at the end of this post.  If you are new to Remington Avenue, you can expect tips and tricks for home styling, DIY  projects (like painting tile & building barn doors), low carb recipes, and updates on my new custom home build.  If you like what you see, I’d love for you to join me each week by subscribing to my blog at the bottom of this post.  And always thank you to my regulars who continually pop in for a visit.

With just a few steps you can create a more welcoming home while reflecting the season outside. Let’s start at the front door, shall we. Yellow is the color of friendship and just so happy.  What better way to welcome others into your home then with a yellow budded wreath.  This particular wreath is dried, which I prefer over faux.  Make it your own by adding a touch of wired ribbon.  I love this courtly check black and white option, but choose one that reflects your personal home style.

I love to add some seasonal decor to my entryway as well.  When I think of spring, I think of new life.  The obvious translation into home decor is living plants and flowers.  Believe me, I have added a lot of these, but here in my entry way I got a little creative.  I found these free botanicals with this pretty pink theme.  You can print them for your own home by clicking Here.  Instead of a traditional frame, I simply strung them from some twine and clipped them up using mini close pins.  Free, easy, and a fun little change.  I honestly don’t decorate for each holiday, but adding a little bunny and some festive candy to my apothecary jars is an easy way to give a nod to the spring season.  I love using apothecary jars as seasonal vessels.  You can switch out the candies and flowers and easily transition your home from season to season.

In the living room I’ve mixed a combination of real and faux flowers scattered about.  My tree branches outside are not quite budded yet, but once they do, I’ll replace my faux branches with the real deal.  Again, you can’t beat free strait from your own yard.  I added some baby’s breath in my patterned ginger jar.  Baby’s-breath is also inexpensive and dries in practically the same condition as the fresh flowers. You can even add flowers to kitchen bowls to add a variety of color and pattern.

Changing out your muted pillow covers for more vibrant colors and floral patterns are always a good idea for spring decorating.  I rotated my red velevet pillows out for this hot pink version, and brought back my fall florals on the other side of the room.  One little accessory I’ve been loving lately are these colorful tassels.  They can be added to any throw pillow with a zipper or ottoman for a fun change.  I don’t buy new pillows for every season, but just changing around the placement and switching out a color or 2 can make a big impact. If you’d like to see the blue tassels added to my bedroom ottomans CLICK HERE.

Bringing life into the kitchen is the easiest of all.  For me Costco is my one stop shop for flowers.  They always have a great variety of seasonal bouquets and potted plants.  I scooped up a bundle of pink tulips and a potted lavender plant the other day.  Lucky for me the florist was restocking the tulips and gave me some tips on making my tulips last longer. Did you know that tulips will grow another inch once they are cut and put into water?  I didn’t either.  She told me to trim an inch off the bottom after a couple days and throw a penny in the vase.  Must be something to do with the copper, but the penny trick really made a difference. Thank you costco!

I switched out my marble cutting board for a floral plate above my range.  I love the fun colorful pattern it adds to my spring kitchen.  I pulled out a few more of these plates and placed them in 3 different spots around the kitchen… Above my cabinets by the window, on my hood, and in my glass cabinets on the other side.  Balance is key!

Don’t forget to group your vignettes or table centerpieces in groups of 3’s or 5’s.  Odd numbers are pleasing on the eye.   On my kitchen table I have my favorite italian cream cake (almond flavor with shredded coconut…so good) and a small marble tray that houses a vase of fresh lemons, tulips, and a small stack of bowls.  Did you count the number of accessories in this table display?  Yup that’s right…5!

Don’t forget, spring decorating is easy. Just remember to bring life back into your home by adding fresh and faux flowers, botanical prints, floral graphics (on pillows, plates, and art), and some fun bright colors.  I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun seasonal tour.  Next stop on the Spring has Spring Home Tour is Kim’s home from Sand & Sisal.  Dot forget to say hi for me.

  5. I loved your tour! Your house is gorgeous!! I have a question about your books. Why is the spine of the books facing the back of your bookshelf? I like the look, but I’ve never seen it before.

    1. These are books we’ve had for ages. We rarely read them, more of a collection at this point, so I reversed them for styling purposes. I just like to more cohesive colors of the pages vs the spines.
