The Statement Chandelier In My Dining Room

I needed a statement chandelier for the dining room and the moment I saw the transitional Cassian Chandelier from Hudson Valley Lighting, I knew she was the one. It’s everything I wanted: exaggerated, stunning, and the perfect focal point for my dining nook. The smoked glass detail complements the soft grey veining in my wood floors, and the brass finish ties in beautifully with accents throughout the rest of my English tutor design.
You can shop the exact chandelier here.
For reference, my dining nook is 13ft x 13ft. The Cassian comes in two sizes, and I chose the large — though honestly, either would’ve worked in this square room. If you’re looking for a statement light, this one is a showstopper.
A Dining Room With a View
In my last house, the dining area was sandwiched between the kitchen and living room — and let’s be honest, it became a bit of a catchall space. This time around, I wanted something different. I envisioned a kitchen-connected dining space that still felt special but was meant for everyday use.

This nook sits right off the kitchen, framed by long windows that overlook our backyard and pool. It reminds me of my childhood dining room, where we’d gather around a big table in front of floor-to-ceiling windows for holidays. Only now, we get to enjoy that view every day — not just on special occasions.

Dining Room Furniture Design
Now that all the furniture has arrived, the room is really starting to come together. Honestly? I could leave it as-is — it’s already beautiful — but you know me. I’m still dreaming up some finishing touches, like adding decorative box trim to the bare wall… and maybe even wallpapering the ceiling. I know, a little crazy, but I think it could be amazing.

I love mixing textures and finishes in a space, and this dining room is no exception. The wood pedestal expandable table (which you can find here) is one of my favorite pieces. It seats up to 8 people when fully extended, with a shape that transitions from round to oval — perfect for this square room. The fawn oak veneer has such a gorgeous, soft tone, and the angled base gives it a little modern edge.

On each end, I added tufted chairs for an elevated feel, paired with solid wood side chairs to keep the look grounded. Playing with a mix of textures, materials, and subtle patterns gives the room warmth and personality without feeling overdone.

This dining nook feels like the perfect blend of form and function — cozy enough for everyday family meals, but polished enough for hosting holidays.

And let’s be real — it all started with that statement chandelier.
