5 Tips to Achieve a Five Star Hotel Bed at Home
Hello friends! I’m so excited to share a peak into my newly revamped master bedroom. I am still waiting on a few more pieces to complete the transformation, but for now let’s talk bedding. Jumping into a luxurious hotel bed is an unbeatable feeling right?! If you are like me and long for a way to bring that five star hotel comfort to your otherwise humdrum bedroom, here are five steps to do just that. Read on as I share my five tips for turning your ordinary at-home bed into a five star hotel retreat.

5 Tips to Achieve a Five Star Hotel Bed at Home
Tip 1: Keep it Crisp and White (mostly) While colorful, bold bedding can be beautiful, you gotta keep your bed linens white if you are truly seeking a five star hotel feeling! All white bedding has a calming affect and will keep the mood peaceful. You’ll notice I do have some tone variation from white to cream and even a little peak of tan. This is okey as long as you stay within that overall white theme. I have never been to a fancy hotel with a bold paisley print quilt… that would give the feeling of a quaint Inn or bed and breakfast.
Hotels usually use a flat sheet as the top layer of bedding, but this hemmed white duvet cover is the perfect at home solution. Its crisp edges keep the bed looking clean and fresh. If you are dying to add a pop of color, opt for a couple fun throw pillows for a personal touch.
Tip 2: Layer it up Baby! First comes the sheets. Did you know we spend more time in our beds then any other singular place? Investing into comfortable, quality sheets is a must. I love these white hemmed sheets from bollandbrach. They are 100% certified organic and feature the feel of $1000 dollar sheets for a quarter of that price. If you’ve been following me for a while you know I always go for the 5 star experience without the 5 star price When you make your bed pull the top flat sheet all the way to the headboard and lay it flat.
Next layer the blanket. I chose this classic waffle blanket because it adds the perfect texture. Even though the bedding is all white (mostly), adding different textures will create a more inviting space. This blanket becomes even more cuddly with every wash! When making your “hotel bed” pull the waffle blanket all the way up to the headboard. Then fold down the waffle blanket and the flat sheet creating two different folds.
Get a down comforter! I don’t know how I slept without one. When my husband and I were first married we bought a down comforter right from the get go. It really brings that fluffy cloud like feeling to the bed. I promise you will thank me later. This is the one we have had all (almost 10 years) of marriage. Cover the down comforter in the hemmed duvet and fold it into thirds at the foot of the bed. See how cozy and fluffy it is?!
Tip 3: Tuck it in! Next time you go to your favorite hotel, take a look at the bed. You won’t find any loose ends. Tuck your sheets and waffle blanket under the mattress. Fold the corners at an angle creating a crisp diagonal line. CLICK HERE TO SHOP MY WHOLE BEDROOM LOOK.
Tip 4: Pillow Talk The white hemmed sheet set came with two king size pillow cases that feel like butter. Down pillows that feel like clouds wrapped in butter…now that’s what I’m talking about! I actually have 4 king size pillows that we sleep with. Two of my pillows are covered with the white hemmed pillow cases, and two are covered with the dune banded pillow cases. You can never have enough pillows in my book.
Pillows you put your head on should lay flat, but decretive pillows stand tall. I selected two dune banded pillow shams in white. While there is a little color here, the neutral tan blends with all the other natural tones occurring in my space. The soft color adds some design interest while still maintaining the over all peaceful feeling of the bed. I also selected 3 white hemmed euro shams. They stand tall against the headboard creating yet another layer of comfort and luxury.
Tip 5: Iron or Steam…choose your weapon. I hate ironing and I have to admit this is my least favorite step. But how much do you love slipping into crisp clean linens at the end of a long day? I have this steamer, and it makes all the difference. I steam the linens right on the bed and it is so much easer then wrestling them down over an ironing board. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t do this every day…no body’s got time for that! But if you give them a nice steam after washing it will make all the difference.

I was so excited to read this post since I’m looking to purchase new bedding. But I am so disappointed that everything is so expensive. Definitely not realistic for the average person to afford.
Dana I am so sorry you feel that way. I really tried to aim for a quality product that would last years.
It always amazes me how many people don’t pay a little extra to have a 5* hotel bed + bedding… especially when this is where we spend half our lives! Love ❤️Boll and Branch!
