DIY Theater Room Reveal

DIY | English Tudor Construction | Home Tour

You have all been waiting patiently, but it’s officially time for my DIY theater room reveal! That console really held us up! It was so worth the wait, but I am so glad I waited to share with you! This room has really came together in the best way. This project was so rad, and I love that I get to make something out of nothing. And for my own home to boot!

The planning is the hardest part for me – execution I got! I knew in this space, to get the ‘theater’ feel, I wanted to add in architectural elements. I wanted to define the two spaces of the basement in some way. So when you walked into the theater ‘area’, you felt like you were walking into a new ‘room’. These pieces of white oak accent board made the biggest difference in the transformation. I did a little stair step and decided to go vertically around each room. And I knew this would look amazing with the molding I had in my head as well!

Next up was my board cutting, sanding and staining. And then paint!

Hot tip when you are working with sanding wood and filling holes: mix a little sawdust with wood glue and spread it into your hole in the wood. Works like a charm! Sand it down and you will never know there was a little hole there.

Here is how I installed the molding in the basement after color drenching.

For these boards, I used a custom stain that I love and have used before. Longer strokes, with the grain of the wood is always best. Going against the grain and stopping abruptly with your strokes makes it a little spotty or like you stopped and started in different processes.

The stacked feature added so much depth and dimension to the room, literally making it seem twice as big as it did before. This small detail gives it a regent style that ties in to the rest of our home and is a beautiful added feature. Still can’t get enough every time I walk in. I am loving creating these unique spaces within the house that are special in their own right, but still make sense.

But my favorite part of this DIY theatre room reveal that is next level cool? The color drenching technique. Saturated walls are easier to incorporate into your home than you think!

Everything was painted in the Benjamin Moore color Cheating heart. Walls, ceiling, and every lighting can, and the speaker covers were all painted to match. The darker, moody color made the room into a movie oasis and really was the perfect choice.

The couches got a lot of attention – and let me tell you – we are obsessed. They are from 7th Avenue and have built in storage beneath the cushions, which is perfect for all the cozy blankets. They are also water and stain resistant! Plus, they are easy to move and latch together so they can be sectionals or sofas. 7th Avenue thought of everything. I ended up getting two different colors – one to bring in the light and one to sort of mold into the color drenched walls. I ordered one extra deep and one regular. But truly, I wish I would’ve just gotten both extra deep!

This projector is an outdoor/indoor projector and is portable! It truly has amazing quality. We got this screen and projector from the same company. I can’t recommend them enough.

I added a LOT of fluffy blankets and comfy pillows to create the ultimate cuddle area. You have seen these pillows and throws throughout my house in the past – they stand the test of time and still look chic!
