DIY Luxe Home Gym Reveal
Our gym used to be all punching bag and sweat. Since you can see it through the glass-paneled walls from our staircase, I wanted it to feel like the rest of the house: calm, warm, and a little more yoga studio than locker room. If you’ve been watching my gym transformation reels and the gym highlight on Instagram, here’s the full DIY Luxe Home Gym Reveal process, all in one place!

Check out the before:

I truly wanted this home gym to be a place where I wanted to come to. Not only to workout in but to find some peace. Life can get so crazy hectic and working out has really been a great thing for both my inner and outer strength! Plus the older kids have been getting into fitness and it’s a great escape for Chris and I. If you have the space, DO it!

How We Renovated our Home Gym
1. Clear the room. Every machine, weight, and bin came out so I could see the walls as a blank canvas. Get the space clear, so you can see a super clear vision ahead. Plus this allows for a deep cleaning before everything goes back in! You can read part one of our DIY Luxe Home Gym Reveal here!

2. Choose your details, and lay out the trim. I mapped the box molding with my laser level, then marked each box with painter’s tape before cutting a single piece. Fun surprise: the window wasn’t centered, and I didn’t realize that so I adjusted the spacing instead of starting over. Even I make DIY mistakes! My molding shears made the cuts fast and clean, and caulk hid every seam. For measurements and step-by-step install, see my chair rail and wall molding tutorial.

3. Add wallpaper for warmth and texture: I chose a faux grasscloth that’s wipeable (a must in a gym) and gives the room that spa texture. If you’re hanging your own, my DIY wallpapering tips walk through paste-the-wall, corners, and trimming.

4. Paint Color Selection: The paint color is Sherwin-Williams Pewter Tankard, a moody, earthy gray that grounds the whole space. Pro tip: make sure you check the paint in all lighting, throughout the day. It’s a game changer and you may not love it when the sun goes down.
5. Finish the room with all the little details! The fun part! I picked up this yoga mat and I am obsessed. Well worth the investment! This is when you can really add your overall vibe to the space. Go with neutrals – weights, lighting, finishes – to really make the space feel like an escape.
One of my favorite adds were these cute wall buttons. I thought the room needed that extra little sprinkle of designer. Couldn’t love them more and I am thinking of the next place I can use them!

The result is a gym I actually want to spend time in. Watch the full transformation in my DIY Home Gym Highlights, and save this post for your own makeover!
