Budget-Friendly Room Makeovers: My Top 2024 DIY Transformations

Looking back on 2024, I can see that this year was a little different from last. There weren’t as many DIY projects from start to finish, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t busy! Much of my time went into creating and designing for our new build. I may not have tackled as many hands-on projects, but I still got to make beautiful spaces. And I loved every minute of it!
This year, I had the chance to do some fun room makeovers for people I love. My top three favorite projects were: my sister’s slat wall basement, my sister-in-law’s master bedroom makeover, and a refresh of my nieces’ shared room. All of these were budget-friendly and required some elbow grease—especially that basement slat wall project! But, it ended up being my favorite makeover of the year. Here’s a look at these three special transformations:
1. Slat Wall Basement Makeover: A Challenge That Paid Off

This basement makeover was my biggest project of 2024. The space had a drop-down ceiling soffit, wallpaper to install, and the main event—a stunning slat wall. It was a lot of work, but the end result was totally worth it.

2. Master Bedroom Makeover for My Sister-In-Law

This master bedroom makeover was so much fun. My sister-in-law and her husband wanted a cozy, shared space that also doubled as a functional workspace. We used deep green and earthy tones to create a calming atmosphere.

The desk worked as both a nightstand and a workspace. It was practical, stylish, and a perfect solution for the space! And one of the best tricks we used was combining two dressers to fill an empty wall and create extra storage.

This feature wall was simple to do but made a big impact. If you want to know how we did it, check out my blog post.

3. Whimsical Shared Room for My Nieces

My nieces were growing up and needed a refresh for their shared bedroom. They wanted something girly, imaginative, and full of pink flowers. It was a blast to design their new space, and we made sure to add room for their favorite accessories. The result was a fun, vibrant space where they could play and relax.

Building the Foundation for Our New Home
Along with these DIY room makeovers, I spent a lot of time this year designing and planning for our new family home. While I missed doing hands-on DIY work, it was exciting to see my ideas come to life on paper. Working with my amazing builder, Eric Budge, has been such a rewarding experience. Together, we’ve started laying the foundation for our new home.
Life has different phases. Some years are for building and planning, others are for finishing projects and seeing the results. This year was about laying the groundwork for our new home. It was tough and required a lot of work, but it was also exciting. I’m learning to embrace every part of the process!
No matter where you are in life, I encourage you to find joy in each stage! Whether it’s in building, grinding, or celebrating the end results, every part of the journey is important. I’m so grateful for everyone who follows along and supports me through each phase of life. I can’t wait to bring you even more DIY room makeovers and design inspiration in 2025!
