How To Style A Sofa
Since I am currently hosting a fun hashtag on Instagram called #showmehowyoustyle, I thought it would be fun to break down exactly how styling is accomplished. Â Feel free to join me on IG under RemingtonAvenue (link on my homepage) or at least check out the hashtag for some inspiration!
Starting with practically a blank slate, lets break it down into steps.
STEP 1: Â ADD LIGHTING
Lighting helps add height. Â You can use a small lamp on top of a table like shown here, or a free standing floor lamp. Â Just make sure it extends above the sofa to draw your eye up!
STEP 2: Â BRING IN A PLANT
Adding a natural element is never a bad idea, and what a nice way to add a pop of color. Â Any variety will do. Â My lilacs happen to be in full bloom right now so that is what you see here. Â Flowers, house plants, succulents, faux plants…they all do the trick!
STEP 3: Â FEATURE ARTWORK
This helps create depth and interest. The peacock wall stencil on my staircase fits the criteria. Â Other ideas would be one large piece of framed art, a gallery, wallpaper, mirror, or a tapestry. Â Really the possibilities are endless.
STEP 4: Â FINISH THE LOOK WITH THROWS AND PILLOWS
A great blanket and pillows add an instant update to any sofa. Â Here larger pillows transform the seating space by adding color and comfort, while the draped, textured throw softens the design.

I like the side table . Did you build it?
I didn’t build it but I did add the metal tops to each level
I’ve just discovered your blog. It is awesome. Thank you for breaking down how you do your magic.
Love your blog and your sofa! Where is your sofa from?
Thank you so much Jen! I ordered my sofa from Direct Source Furniture. It is the Rochelle sectional by Robert Micheal.
