Asymmetrical Holiday Front Porch Design

DIY | holiday | Interior Decor

If you have been here long enough, you know I love a good mantle, a great halloween costume and unique front porch decor for the holidays.

Here is how pulled together this asymmetrical holiday front porch design! And read on to see how I am making it sturdy enough to last all holiday season!

Stunning Holiday Front Porch Design

This year I wanted to do more of an asymmetrical porch to match the slant of the roof at the front of the house.  New house, new front porch design – it all aligns!

I knew I wanted a pop of color with a classic touch. I have been gravitating towards that simple, homey, timeless decor style for this season. And I love how it’s all coming together.

I started by using command straps to hold down the first strip of garland. Then, I draped a second strip of garland starting about halfway through the first strip. I also used heavy duty zip ties to connect the two garlands and the heavy ornaments. Primarily, I draped the garland end to exaggerate the asymmetric design to add a lot of visual weight.

From here, I used ornament threads to fully wrap around the garlands from the left all the way down the right side. In retrospect I would have wrapped the ornaments before putting the garland on. Lessons were learned, fingers bled, here we are.

From there I added multiple sizes of large ornaments – you could get really creative here. I experimented with different textures on the ornaments and used materials I already had to enhance the magic.

Creating a visual front porch design doesn’t have to break the bank and you don’t have to buy all new each year.

A stunning holiday front porch design can come from items you have and a few tweaks can make it new and fresh! I like to encourage designing your own front porch to fit the exterior of your home.

It makes such a beautiful impact to highlight the established shapes and curves. Every home has some different features. This ensures you’re not imitating your neighbors porch, which gives the whole neighborhood character!

For this particular front porch design, I used an old outdoor pot and spray painted it red to make it appear like an extra large ornament. Simply tuck that baby under the edge of the garland or other ‘ornaments’ and no one will ever know, how will they know?

To finish it off, I put together an outdoor planter and filled it with ornaments. I then added some lighted outdoor wire ornaments. Add in a large velvet bow, and Makenzie Childs ornaments for some focal points and voilá! Stunning front porch? Check, check!
