French Country Transitional Master Bedroom Tour
Thank you for stopping in for a tour of our french country transitional master bedroom.  Our home definetly embodies french country style throughout, but what does transitional mean? Transitional style is defined as a contemporary blend of traditional and modern styles, midway between old world traditional and the world of chrome and glass contemporary; incorporating lines that are less ornate than traditional designs, but not as severely basic as contemporary lines.  Now that we have a clear understanding of transitional french country design, let’s dive right in.
How about a herringbone brick wall to tie in the exterior elements of my home? I had intended to paint it the same color as our white brick exterior, but once I saw it installed, I knew I could never cover it up. We used an assortment of brick colors and textures which only adds to the old world charm. Â Each time I enter my bedroom, an immediate sigh of relaxation comes over me. Â A bedroom should be calm and peaceful if you ask me! But what does a mom of 3 young crazy kids know?! lol

The warm white oak floors are balanced with large rustic ceiling beams. Â I had my finish carpenter build them out of Alder (instead of white oak) to save money. Â My painter then made a custom stain to match the tones of the floor. Â I absolutely love how they turned out!
The giant black window really shows the scale of this bedroom. Â My windows are wood, but designed to mimic black steel windows. Â Click here to read how we got the look for less.
Nothing adds more elegance to our bedroom then these custom floor length drapes from Tonic Living.  The woven Thornton Stripe fabric marries the warm tones so perfectly.  I had them made with a European pleat and lined with black out fabric. They are even more stunning in person.  You can either order the drapes to your specifications or if you sew, or know someone who can, then just order the straight fabric yardage. My panels are each 12.5 ft long and boy are they heavy.  Here is a little tip for installation:  Use toggle bolts to anchor your drapery hardware to the wall.  They were so easy to install and hold up to 250 lbs.  Trust me, I learned the hard way and had to reinstall these beauties (with toggle bolts instead of regular wall anchors) again after patching my wall!  Click here to order custom drapes for your home.
Layers are luxury and not exclusive to bedding. Â Custom linen shears add an additional layer of window dressing. Â Since my master bedroom window is on the front of the home, it was absolutely necessary to have privacy while still allowing in all the glorious natural light. Â Trust me, my neighbors thanked me!! These sheers are finished with the same European pleat and skim the floor just perfectly. Â You can shop rods up to 10ft in length HERE and customize finials (decorative ornament on end of rod) to your liking.
The showstopper of this french country chateau-like suite is the wood beaded chandelier by Capital Lighting. It’s oversized presence really stops you in your tracks! The traditional shape with its antiqued patina, exudes french country design. Â Honesty this beaded chandelier really took my master bedroom up about 5 notches on the AMAZING scale. Â Click here to shop the collection.
The white walls keep the bedroom light and airy. Â They are painted simply white by Benjamin Moore. Â It’s the perfect warm white that feels cozy without being too yellow.
Our 4 post canopy bed has made a seamless transition from our old house to the new. Â I love the clean simple lines with just a touch of traditional detail on the posts. Â The natural linen headboard is indicative of french county style, while the bedding is clean and tailored.
White organic sheets, a white waffle blanket, and an organic cotton white duvet make up the foundation of this look. I kept my color palette fairly neutral to achieve a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Â Custom Euro shams from tonic Living frame the headboard with a subtle stripe. Â I love the diagonal design detail. Â Click here to order custom Euros or throw pillows in this stripe fabric.
Banded shams cover my pillows and a long sophisticated plaid lumbar pillow finish the look. Layer pillows, blankets, duvets, and throws to create a luxurious and cozy bed. Â Â A few pops of blue only add to the calming nature of this bedroom. Â No bed is complete without a soft throw blanket at the foot.
I have never had a fireplace in my bedroom before. Â I am so excited to have this feature encased in painted brick and trimmed with traditional molding. My spindle chairs (that used to be in my living room) have found a home next to the fireplace. They are accented with velvety light blue pillows to pull the blue all the way around the room.
The blue accents are grounded by this gorgeous traditional rug. Â I love the variation of light and dark blues that play so well with the warm neutrals throughout. Â Click here to shop this rug.
I bleached these old night stands to give them a washed weathered look and added some basic kitchen knobs to the bottom. Â The knobs act like feet and elevate the style for a few bucks. Â You’d be surprised at how an old piece of furniture can transform into something you love with just a bit of thought and work. Â Click here for any easy tutorial on bleaching wood.
Finally the nightstands are finished with my favorite sconces of all time. They add a sense of refinement with its intricately crafted design and warm ambient lighting.  I love using wall sconces as an alternative to table lamps to free up more space on the nightstands.  Click here to view all finish options for these sconces.
As time goes on I will be adding some art, plants, and photos to personalize our french country transitional master bedroom. So peaceful and gorgeous….I have had fun following along with your building journey. I’m just a few months away to start our custom home build. I saw your exterior elevation sketch on your blog and was surprised how close the exterior of your new home and my new home look. Many of the same elements. I will have to send you a front elevation photo. Your new home is amazing.

Love following the journey of Remington Ave on Instagram and on the blog! I was just curious as to where the components for the master bedroom TV are or will be. It’s always an eye sore and I like to see how others handle the situation.
We had our components wired in our master bedroom closet which is directly behind our mantel. sneaky!
your bedroom is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing. Wanted to find out where you got the striped pouffes?
Thanks torie. Thank you for pointing out that I forgot to link those. Just added a brand new link for the ottomans. You will love them, they have moved from room to room in my home.
Thanks so much. Your home is beautiful!!!
I’m head over heels in love with your house! You have such an amazing sense of design and stay true to yourself, which is refreshing. I read about how you saved $ with your windows but I was wondering if you had the interior of the windows painted after install of if you ordered them prepainted. Are there any rooms where you had them painted in white? We are about to embark on a house renovation and I want black windows without paying the high dollar for the steel variety.
Hi olga thank you! I did have them painted after installation. If you read my window post it gives 3 different options that are all great options. Mine are wood, and only a few i left white or stained wood (master bath). https://remingtonavenue.com/2018/01/black-steel-windows-and-doors-the-look-for-less-8.html
