Sister’s Loft Renovation Reveal

DIY | Family

If you follow along on my Instagram, you know that I just wrapped up a project at my sister’s house. My sister’s loft renovation reveal is something I have been waiting to share for weeks – so excited with how it turned out!

Her loft area upstairs didn’t serve much of a purpose when we first started on this project. It was kind of just a catch all space for toys and clutter and I wanted to change that. I started the room renovation / transformation with this DIY Modern Board and Batten project. I absolutely love how it turned out! The trim detail and the color add so much character and warmth to the loft. The wallpaper is from Wall Blush & its called Face It and the board and batten and chair rail color is Dead Salmon by Farrow & Ball.

In case you missed it: I created this super functional DIY Ikea Hack Homework Station area. Part of the reason for this loft reno, was to make the space more functional and usable, which is exactly what this homework station did.

It was such a fun challenge to take the Ikea drawers that everyone knows, and turn them into a built-in, custom piece. Let this be a reminder that you don’t need to build everything from scratch to get a custom look!

Furnishing this room was sooo fun! You’ll never guess where most of the pieces in here are from… Walmart! Can you believe it?! Even the sofa is from Walmart’s Gap Home Collection! I really love how all of the layered textures in the room add a level of coziness. In my opinion, all good design should have a combination of three things: texture, color, and pattern.

I brought in the black and white rug in a cross patter on the floor to balance the black and white abstract wallpaper. This awesome rug is called the Alstead Rug from Boutique Rugs. It’s soft and shaggy and everything you’d want in a kids space. And if you didn’t know, Boutique Rugs has a ton of different accessories and textiles, like poufs and pillow covers. Use my code MYSHA60 for 60% off of everything sitewide! That includes the Larose pouf, the Cushing pillow, the Bungarribee pillow, and the Masury pillow, all of which you’ll see in Alyse’s loft.

The tail-end of a project or renovation is always so fun because that’s when everything really comes together.

The furniture all gets brought in and then I can start adding in accessories and decor pieces as the cherry on top of it all. I put my heart and soul into this space, and it’s even more special because it’s for my sister’s family to enjoy! I hoped you enjoyed coming along for the transformation, but most importantly I hope you learned something along the way!
