One Room Challenge- Week 5: Bright White Master Bathroom Lighting and Accessories

DIY | Home Tour | Interior Decor

It’s week five of my bright white master bathroom transformation for the One Room Challenge. I was planning to share a couple DIY projects; my marble shelving and new faux roman shades… I’ve been quite busy over here! However, I’ve decided to hold out till I can write a full tutorial on both.  I guess you’ll just have to wait till the ORC is over.  In the mean time I’ll distract you with shiny objects hehe! I won’t be sharing anymore full room shots until next week’s final reveal, but I will be sharing my master bathroom lighting and accessories choices.

First things first, Let’s talk bathroom lighting.  If you remember back to my first ORC post, I had two 3- light bathroom fixtures with very yellow glass shades.  I really didn’t want to pay an electrician to move my electrical boxes, so I searched and searched for a new 3-light fixture that I loved.  I never found that one that screamed “pick me, pick me”,  so I was back to the drawing board.  Wall sconces or hanging pendants would have been pretty but would have required a visit from Mr. Electrician.  I took a drive over to Lighting Design and toured the showroom.  There were so many fun options but I finally found the ONE! It’s adjustable arm and shiny chrome finish had me swooning.  It also comes in a brushed brass and an english bronze finish, but my left brain already had ideas for this silvery beauty.

My bright white master bathroom transformation is set off with a mix of metal finishes.  I have brushed brass shower fixtures and sink faucets but my bath faucet is chrome.  Do you recall week 3 when I painted them?  Well I carried that same technique to the lighting.  My prediction for 2017 is more selection for two toned lighting, esp in the brass and silver variety!  But since it’s only November and I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, I found a way to make it happen.  Don’t be afraid to take it to the next level and get a little creative (or crazy whatever you wanna call it)… even if it’s on a brand new light!

While I had my paint handy I decided to go ahead and get crazy with my bathroom hardware too.  To see the full in depth tutorial click Here.

I had a friend ask the other day if there were any rules when it comes to mixing metals.  In my opinion, any mix of metals is acceptable, as long as it’s repeated.  If you look at metals as colors, a good rule of thumb is to create color triangles.  Using my bathroom as an example, I have chrome in my lighting, bath faucet, and other accessories.  The brass is used in my shower, sink faucets, and again where I painted my bathroom accessories.  As long as the metal (or color) is repeated, it won’t stick out or look out of place.  You’ll see what I mean next week in the final reveal, but for now the photo below will have to suffice.  Even the gray on the towels, gray floor tile, and gold on the candle play into the metal color story!

I’ll be adding more fun bathroom accessories from Lamps Plus.  I always viewed Lamps Plus as a lighting store, but I was surprised to find out they carry a large variety of furniture and home decor.  I’m bringing in some unexpected items that might not scream BATHROOM lol!
